I usually like how this cellist plays, but I suppose I am old school. I like the way pablo casals interprets the bowings, and so do many other cellist. It sounds so good the way he interpreted, why change it?
Because its an interpretation? And there are so many different ways to interpret this music that not one person is right, and only Bach knows how he truly wanted this to be played. I personally hate when the cello suites are played Romantically and believe that Bach should always be metered and there should only be tempo changes at cadential points when a pause, ritardando, or break emphasizes that cadence.
This guy is talented, but Yo-Yo Ma actually gives your ears a chance to take in the beautiful music. Mischa Maisky is in the middle, not too fast, not too slow.

THE BEST!
But if I take the bow and my strings I relax with this.
I love all the six suites but this is my fav! :)
Not often you see someone who appreciates both ends of the musical spectrum; metal and the bach suites. good on ya!
