the flourish movement serves a couple of purposes. one, the continual movement is disturbing to your opponent and hides when your actually going to strike. it helps to lull your opponent. two, the constant circular movement creates a lot of whipping power when you strike much like a tres buchet; it also creates a defensive screen against your opponents strikes.

i notice a lot of excessive movements in this art. why the many flourishes?

and what's the purpose of hopping with your back to the opponent? case in point: at 0.09 it's like someone pressed the up button on a controller.

if i didn't know better, i'd think they look like two ponces trying to figure out how to fight together.
