The Mig-25 was built in response to the US B-70 bomber in the 1970s. While the B-70 never materialized, the Mig-25 went into production anyway. The Mig-25 had very high speed as well as a very high rate of climb. It had an extreamly powerfull radar for the time that could burn through any countermeasures. However it was not manueverable and was basically a rocketship with wings. When Lt Belenko defected to the west in a Mig-25 its many difficiencies were uncovered.
