While that's certainly rude of him, just think of it from his point of view. How many times had people done the exact same thing to him, just in that one day, when the only thing he wants to do is have an enjoyable evening? Now think of how many days in the past 25 years that he has had people asking him the same thing. It would tend to wear a persons nerves a bit thin honestly.
