Didn't Everet Eddy fight Joe Lewis?

From what I heard, they fought at the point turney. Eddy beat Lewis. But Lewis had been already retired from the point competition. Had both fought in the full-contact arena, Lewis would have slaughtered Eddy.

I read in I think it was Black Belt Magazine several years ago about the fight it told about his defeat I was disappointed because I was at the time I was starting out in karate and Joe Lewis was my idle, the article really made Joe Lewis look bad in my opinion. Thanks for the reply.

Eddy beat Lewis for the heavyweight championship at the 1974 Top Ten Nationals in St. Louis. The tournament was officially semi-contact, but many of the bouts between the best fighters featured rather heavy contact.
The score was either 5-3 or 6-4 in Eddy's favor. I've seen both in print. Apparently Lewis knocked Eddy out of the ring at least once.
It seems to have been one hell of a match -- sure wish we had it on film:) --

Lewis is not called the world greatest fighter for nothing. I seen Lewis fight Chuck Norris in Long Beach Ca in 1965 or 66 he lost by one point. Both fighters was powerhouses.
