The United World Philharmonic is Caring for our Future classical music & technology for sustainable living
Beethovenhalle Bonn 31st October 1999
Conductor: Jonathan Sheffer
under the patronage of UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME
excerpt from an EXCLUSIVE GALA CONCERT classical music synchronized with digitally mastered multimedia images - a reflection on the human civilization - 31st October 1999 in Bonn the official cutural event, live broadcasted on ZDF GERMAN TV at Beethoven Concert Hall .
The United World Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of extraordinary young musicians from all over the world and its music are the focal point of the evening. Futuristic communications technology such as "virtual multimedia technology" will be employed to visually present live concerts of classical music.Images showing the state of our world will merge with the orchestra and the music and transport the viewer into a realistic fantasy world. The evening also experiments with the senses - images and sound will be united to create a new experience of classical music.
"Youth is the Future" - this key idea is the pillar on which this project has developed and taken on a highly unique viewpoint of the closing century and more particularly of the new millennium. Having arrived at the end of the 20th century it seems that there is no tangible history and no clear view of life upon which young people can orientate themselves. But hidden from sight in the minds of some people there is something which they are able to visualise very clearly and which has led to a new view of life, namely the idea of "sustainable development", of living and economising so that the next generation will not be worse off than we today. This concept of the future has become the hub of the event.
On this particular evening, Youth is symbolised by an international orchestra which has been specially brought together for this live event. The artists come from all corners of the earth, are aged between 18 and 25, and every one of them is a professional musician. The orchestra can be seen as a microcosm of "sustainable living" for only when all the musicians play together in a disciplined manner and strive towards a common goal will they be crowned with success. And note that these young people are bringing us all a gift: the gift of their wonderful music, the precious cultural heritage of past generations, the timeless and stimulating beauty of classical music which appeals to all our senses.
Orchestra left as a part of its efforts its own 30 kW photovoltaic panels on roof of Beethovenhalle ..can be seen at the end of movie as well as tree planting action... UN Delegates from 186 countries had been invited. ...by the way the musicians never met and played together before....
The Orchestra will be renamed for future activities into "United Nations Youth Orchestra" more information under www.UNYouthOrchestra.org
broadcast and co-produced by the environmental programme department of ZDF/arte/3sat
Background of the "United World Philharmonic": This Youth Orchestra for the United Nations has been founded in co-operation of the leading international youth orchestras - such as European Union Youth Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. So those Orchestras had been associated in their World Federation of international Youth Orchstras.
All those wonderful musicians came out of in those orchestras last sessions in summer 1999 to meet in Bonn in October 1999 at that Climat Change Convention to send their message in UNITY. They rehearsed the programme for one week.

i have all of his music on Cd, but this is by far one of my favorite. so strong, and passionate like all of his compositions-but this one effects me more so for some reason.
its great that such an excellent impresionist piece is linked with video of sea...(but I don't like the boats and surfer there, it would be better if only sea and fish would be there...but anyway good stuff) Debussy and Ravel forever;)))
