I did notice that, and also similar to the way Pete Seeger sings Pastures of Plenty. (more lines in the latter.) I do like the drive of this kind of ballad.

I'm pretty sure that's Mike Seeger on banjo, not his brother Pete. You can download "Hollis Brown" (with Dylan and Mike Seeger) from Mike's "Third Annual Farewell Reunion" CD. Mike was playing at a club in NYC in 1962 and saw Dylan in the audience. He invited him up at the end of his set and Dylan sang this while Mike backed him up on banjo.

I should probably add that the version on "Third Annual Farewell Reunion" was recorded in 1993, not 1962...
