a while back people would call americans dancers. it was durring a time when US citizens were failing in terms of maths and sciences, so people said that dancing was all they were capable of.
I don't know if this is what the song is refering to, but personally i think its saying how, are we really people, or are we just pretty faces good for nothing but dancing (no offense to the dancers out there)
