Does any one ever get real wounds during these 'battles'?

Viking actually means "Raider" an was used to refer to anyone who raided up and down coasts and along inland rivers using boats. They were fast attacks, killing or scattering everyone, taking slaves and loot, burning the buildings then retreating to their boats and sailing away.

Viking means "man from the bay, and is taken from the scandinavian word for bay witch is vik. And just to set a fact straight, the vikings were first traders and merchants, but the also went for raids, but it was safer to trade than pillage. But raidings are ofcourse more intresting and therefor remembered through history

Viking may also stand for 'to go viking' = "to go on sea expedition".

U guys should read history before arguing about things u have no knowledge of. Just type "Rus" into wikipedia...

Russian Vikings? hahaha! Did you know that the Swedish Vikings made a fortune by raiding and trading Russian slaves to the Arabians or Byzantium people? There were no such thing as Russian Vikings.
