The thing is shurbcpfc, because subtitled films are seen to be unpopular, they are almost ignored by the Tv companies, with only an odd one thrown on, almost always in the wee small hours. In other words, we are all deprived, --it is not only "their loss entirely".

The vast majority of people in Germany during 1939 to 1943 including the period of this film supported Hitler. There was no resistance to Hitler. This film while morally "nice" distorts history by implying that there actually large numbers of both intellectuals within the Universities and outside just simmering with anti-Hitler thoughts.

To shurbcpfc--I hadn't heard this song until i saw Sophie Scholl--a superb film.
I fear though you're wasting you're breath, most people won't read subtitles and will miss that classic, along with many others.

It will be their loss entirely if they don't read the subtitles or any film with subtitles for that matter.
