Thanks for posting this. Ray McCallum was one of my favorite fighters back in the late 70's and early 80's. This guy came to fight, a brawler type at times with great wild kicks from everywhere. Along with Billy Jackson and Troy Dorsey, also out of Dallas under the tutelage of Demetrius Havanas.
Hello siliconvalleysam! Raymond McCallum has actually tought me a few things. I attend American Karate and Self Defence, (which is a karate school Troy Dorsey used to own, but passed it down to one of his students, Ray Gomez.) I have met, spoke with, and laughed with Mr. McCallum, Mr. Jackson, and Mr. Dorsey. They are all awsome, and fun to spar:)
Yes they all seemed to be great guys. the camaraderie between competitors at tournaments around Texas in those days was much mutual respect and admiration among the competitors. Must also include Tim Kirby among the greats on the karate circuit in those years along with those just mentioned.
YES!!! I have only been graced with Mr. Kirby's presence a few times, but when I have been, they have been very aggressive and amazing! Mr. Kirby is awsome:) I wish that karate was as intense and fun as it was 20-30 years ago...
