I hate Scott Stevens a lot as a Flyers fan, but he was the last of the great stay at home d-men. Imagine if Phaneuf had the leeway to deliver hits like this. He's the closest to Stevens the NHL has. I miss hitting like that, there's next to no open ice hits anymore, it's all stupid stick checking. What ever happened to play the man not the puck? Lame.

The powers that be have fucked-up big time by sanitising the game beyond all reason. Now the result is lame idiots like Avery waving his stick around in the face - if he'd only been around a few years earlier the twat would have been smeared across the ice like the turd he is!

watching this makes me once again realize how much hockey sucks now!!!!! fuck!!

What I don't understand is how these are considered dirty if the player isn't looking. That's like telling a running back to run backwards so players can't hit him (and I realize that's stupid). Most of these hits could be avoided if the player simply was looking. First thing they teach you is keep your head up. Also, comparing Stevens to Lidstrom is like comparing the roles of Sean Avery and Ovechkin. Two completly different players
