Not that I mean to patronise or anything; but Mike Patton and Frank Zappa are two of the most bizarre musicians to have got anywhere near the mainstream, and neither would touch any illegal drug (to my knowledge...could be wrong about Patton). So it just goes to show, it's not strictly necessary.
