That is not entirely true or fair, classical music is indeed much more complicated but Rock or especially Metal take huge skill to master as well.

If one looks at the mastery of Joe Satriani or Steve Vai there is immense technical skill.

However, I believe classical music is even greater in musical proficiency. To compose a peice like this requires genius, even an ultimeate guitar shredder couldn't hold a candle to Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Chopin etc.

Chopin is more like Satch or Vai, because after all he didn't like polyphonic music and only likes a solo piano and virtuosity.

Rock just does not have the harmonies of classical, and that's what makes it tough.
But hey, I think Vai is still a genius, but on the other end of the scale. Still it is like comparing apples and oranges to me.
