Its because Gaelige(Irish language) is our native tongue, we only speak English but of the British occupation. Your national anthem is supposed to be your declaration of your independance and hence freedom. Hope that ansers it :)

@SLwootwootUK for the reason you think, the song is quite violent, you should listen to the full thing, It was originally written in English, Translated into Irish and eventually became the de facto national anthem before being officially adopted by the state
