Seriously, people. Someone just happened to mention that he/she also listens to hiphop and not only metal, and you start throwing insults & running your mouth? Ever heard of a thing called tolerance? You don't like a genre, fine. Then don't listen to it. But do not make the mistake of thinking that it makes you somehow better than the ones who do like it. Your view of the world is not the one & only true aspect. Besides, it's only music, nothing more.

so basically if you take sounds that you here, or use sounds made buy other people and add a large amount of lyrics, like in hip-hop you just mentioned, you have music that is far more expressive than music that is created by the actual movement and thought of a person playing an instrument? Sure digital instruments give you more sounds to play with, but they are no where near as expressive as the sounds created by the actual contact and feeling a person has with an acoustic instrument

Many people say "it's just like collage"... you can't make a sound "collage", as music is not taken in the same way visual art is and collage is crap anyway.
It's more akin to a slide-show, and no one would seriously claim that offers more "freedom of expression" than actually being able to create.
Myspace pages made up of stolen "things I like" are as 'expressive' as sample based music, and 12 year olds make those constantly.

It's also really pathetic that you would talk about "expanding culture" on a folk metal vid. Anyone who likes both of those things is already ahead of 99% of the world in "expansion"
Stupidest argument ever, always used by those who have no valid point and usually listen to less music types than the person they're attacking.
"Expand your culture" is basically code for "listen to what I do".
I have heard it so many times, and the person is never satisfied unless you listen to their favorite shit.
