So why does Ian Paice never have a drum solo in this song live? I've checked four live videos of this song and none of them have Ian playing a drum solo.
Ritchie sometimes plays like this on the stage, i thnk ders something in him with the drugs. and dats my opinion, im a BIG fucknatic of Deep Purple since i was a grade skol, and i thnk (maybe) Steve Morse (is not that best like Ritchie, but He is good presntation and he is also a good guitar player) i really appreciate what they both had been done with Deep Purple
This is not a solo. This is just "the noise". He is been doing this in the period 84 - 87. He is just creating madness (usually he breaks guitars in this part). It sounds cool when you are hearing this Live. Blackmore rarely does a solo part like in California Jam 74 in the middle of "you fool no one". In fact he hasn't since 1975!!!
yes, he is (sometimes) enjoying himself on stage, but NEVER if there are any (pro-) cameras and he knows everything he does can be seen by a wider audience ~.~ look for (bootleg-) videos of Deep Purple Sweden 1985 on youtube, he is kidding with the others, playing while lying on the stage, kicking big balloons or changing guitars with roger xD sad that he is too introvert to show this to the whole world.
