Shepard Fairey Interview @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

Fairey loves to rip off the art of people who are part of the counter culture, many times they are people of color, or groups who have fought for social justice, or radicals who have fought against their own countries. The fact that he feels entitled to do this points at his white privilege and white entitlement. When you rip off Cuban artists, Chicano artists, even groups like the Black Panthers - and you fail to give credit - that to me is an excercise of white privilege

Im pretty sure he doesnt do it because they are people of color. Im not trying to defend the fact that he plagiarizes but i dont think he does it to enhance white superiority.

I definitly agree with the bottom line of what he believes. To question everything. But in his interviews, I really don't feel like he makes much sense. He goes on about different topics that I don't feel have anything to do with what he is trying to promote.

talking about art is tough man. art being so hard to discuss is kind of why art needs to exist, because words really are limited.
