no one is saying you have to only listen to Gregorian chat and nothing else...you can listen to both...heck I am quite sure anyone living today also listens to modern music as well if they listen to Chant...as did many in the 12th-15th century listened to secular and motets..

it's about the history now....listening to people sing in historical context chants that are 500 plus years old is something special.
