I don't know."street beat" was okay. Jeff was not known for his work with Tom Scott. Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Gadd were though.

Yep that's quite funky - check the kick drum hit on the 1st beat and the 4th 16th note of the first beat (and no snare back beat on the 3rd beat, only later). But since it's in 3/4 time and has a lot of stuff like 8th note triplets and even more wacky tuplets going on, I'd simply call it jazz-fusion.
To understand classic funk, check James Brown. Tower of Power is highly recommended as well.
This is fantastic at any event.

I love music. I am a musician. The analyzing stuff sound more dry than it is. One you play in a nice band and enjoy it, you know that you need to analyze and study, so you do, and the next gig will go even better.
All the guys from the GRP gang know megatons more music theory than I do (I am 100% sure) and watch how much they enjoy music. I fully understand your point though. :-)

Speaking of analysis...

They slowed down considerably. Compare the beginning with 4:00.

Still, though, white boys got FUNK. I love this.

That tune is called Target. I used to play it in a band. We recorded it as a demo track. It sounds pretty good even if I say so myself. I might put it up on my myspace yet..
