Listen to Death Cab's cover of Daniel Johnston's "Dream". Proof tha fucked up drumming can be intentional and dynamic to a certain point.

does anyone actually realize that if he was messing up it wouldn't be in the final version of the song and they would redo it? he's obviously doing this on purpose to give the song a sense of forward momentum. and also his crazy fills are just weird subdivisions of bar like 7 beats in 4/4.

The drummer is really bad. His timing is constantly off. I can guarantee you it isn't meant to sound this way. Thats kind of like a bad singer saying that he intentionally can't sing in key.

So, his awkward transitions are meant to sound awkward in a sea of excellent, natural guitar work?

No, this is bad drumming. The drummer is the most important part of any band - this is like castrating an otherwise great song D:

One of the best bands out there. I enjoy every aspect of their music, the "dry" type of guitars, not a shred of delay or something else, unlike other post oriented bands, which can't get enough of expanding their pedalboards. This is all composition and dynamics, and the controversal drumming sounds very suitable to me. Cheers friends! Pelican is just awesome.
