Years ago I used to think that the bombastic sound of KD Lang's Surrender was a much more fitting candidate for the main song. But as time has went on, I find that that song's relevance is very restricted to the status of a 'Bond song'. However, perhaps with the minor exception of the Martinis line, the lyrics to this have a melancholic universality to it that transcends the world of Bond.
