I agree with you guys... The new Cyber Punk and EBM groups are most certainly not goth. I will also venture to state a question: Does goth need a revival? True, the movement saw a huge decline at the end of the 90's, but many of the biggest names in goth such as Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxie and the Banshees, and the Cure (not sure if you consider them goth but they had their day) are still going quite strong. All the while interesting new generations of goth bands are popping up.

And people say "We need a new gothic band to put the ROCK back in Gothic Rock"

Here's what I say: This isn't gothic ROCK?

I like new Darkwave though, so fuck off.

I could see a band like Frank the Baptist bringing a Gothic Rock revival actually.

I think the people who say that are more adressing the shitty industrial and EBM that people confuse for Goth music.

I have to agree with you. Seems like media and many people have gone wrong with their definitions for gothic rock. For example if you open Orkus magazine you discover lots of articles considering electro or metal bands. Or just mainstream rock bands like Placebo. It sells but sucks, when you know the differences between other genres and gothic rock. Frank the Baptist could be one of the saviors for the genre.

There seems to be many people who view cyber punk as goth when they are indeed industrial. Not to dismiss EBM are industrial as complete shit but they are indeed not goth. Death rock has not taken a hit from the EBM and industrial scene at all. Which I am really happy about. Orkus interviews metal bands now......
