they don't, the graphic chips are build into the cardrige itself(hence the price back then). The later SNES Cartriges were jampacked with hardware adds(like FX-chip) the cardrige became more powerfull then the SNES itself ;D

Brings back memorys, but I lost my super star wars and empire strikes back :(. I have all my other SNES games though... guess I either sold them or game them to my friend a long time ago.
