Don't forget, he's playing on a monette prana series mouth piece.

I used to play on one, and they make the most amazing tone colour, so different to anything else you've ever heard - but not appropriate for classical, only for jazz funk and latin

Well, when people play classical horns, they play trombones with F attachments and with a bigger bore...like .425 hes playing a jazz horn...like .350...it makes the sound lighter...and thinner

no Trombone is smaller the .48 or .49... a large bore is about .547. .425 is smaller than my Trumpet, how old are you?

I didnt know specific bores...just the concept...that classical horns have larger bores and are fuller and darker...Wycliffe is playing a jazz horn with a smaller bore, which makes it easier for him to pop out those high notes...im 20

He's playing a monette prana mouthpiece.

That's also a HUUUUUUGE factor :p

I used to play one, and it makes such a different tone colour! Although it doesn't really work for classica. But it is awseome for latin, funk and jazz

Lmao a trombone with a .350 bore--that's even skinnier than a pencil

This guy seems to be pretty much invincible. I don't know too many jazz trombonists, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them would have a hard time rasping that high throughout the entire 64-bar solo of Caravan.

You should hear his solo on his "heads up" album with John Allred. Seriously, it is so ballsy.
