I think the region you mean is either the Basque Country or Catalonia. They are not against foreigners but they want to become independent from Spain (well, not all inhabitants there want independence!). There are some extremists groups (in Basque country even a terrorist one called ETA -check it in Google) but we SHOULD NOT say they all are terrorists and hate foreigners.

They just want to defend the survival of their cultural heritage and language (together with Spanish they speak Basque and Catalonian respectively). I think people in these regions (or even in every region in the world, every country in the world) when they try to defend their culture they get together for that common aim. You can feel the sense of union they share and somehow this raises imaginary walls to make themselves different from other people not living there.

I think we need to have that feeling of unity. You can call it patriotism, to belong to somewhere.. but we should be careful and not to be too extreme or we´ll end up rejecting everything which is not from our land. I think that´s somehow what you heard about these regions.

I´m from Andalusia, from Seville, and are friendly and helpful to foreigners. Come yourself and experience it. What do I think about Americans? As I said before I don´t like to generalize but I think your president should invest much more on education. I think there is a big gap in your society in that respect. More and better quality education for everyone not just the rich. Besides, I think you are funny, passionate, optimistic and a bit crazy ;)

haha yeah the poor people can do fine, its whether or not they choose to succeed, kids my age that are poor mostly just get into sex and drugs and then screw themselves over for the rest of their lives, im not rich but im doing fine. the funny thing is Obama wants to legalize marijuana, that would ruin education and interest in learning
