I have always been in awe of Flagstad, but each time I hear her I am more and more impressed, if such a thing is possible. In this recording she soars effortlessly, always true to pitch, always secure, always thrilling. Thanks for posting this recording, which I did not know of until now.

Thank you for the nice comment. Flagstad has been my favorite singer since I first heard her over 20 years ago. I still have plenty of Wagner/Flagstad waiting to be posted - including her Elsa, Sieglinde, Kundry, and Elisabeth.

It would be great for younger people like me! It's very hard to find good recordings from Flagstad. I will be waiting for your future posts!

Thanks for posting this. This is truly the greatest performance of this aria. Even better than the Furtwängler recordings after the war (but they are good too).
The voice is stunning for start to finish!

What more is there to say?

Nothing left but to expire with her.

This performance is actually surprisingly light for Kirsten. She makes the liebestod sound almost like the it's Queen of the Night or Cherubino singing.

:)
