What I tried to say is only this. They are great singers. If they want to sing a Hymn for Christmas paying a tribute for the Lord, they should stay with Holy Night or something similar. Not a song so sad, where the important part is that now the only sound that we hear is a cold and a broken Hallelujah. Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah needs sould and not great voices or singig as iif it was Opera.
to dippadedudah: I agree. This is definitely the most beautiful version of this song I've ever heard. For the life of me, I can't understand not liking it.
I don't understand why you think Il Divo murdered "Hallelujah." (I'm a really huge Leonard Cohen fan and agree with you about Rufus Wainwright's version.) But even though Il Divo's version sounds nothing like Cohen's, I just cut them some slack and see it as an Italian, operatic interpretation, beautiful in its own very different way.
As artists, this is their interpretation of the song. It's great to hear different singers singing this beautiful song. . This is a song that has no boundries. And what a GREAT looking group of guys! Molto Bene!
