This is a simple, poignant short film, shot on a budget of $150: a man with a survey stops passersby and asks them, "Are you anybody's favorite person?" What a heartbreaking question, for somebody who DOESN'T come first in somebody else's heart! Miranda July, who wrote the short story this is based on, had just finished shooting ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW and made this film in the week between shooting and editing the first rough assembly. Miguel Arteta, who directed, was still in love with her at the time, and in an interview with WHOLPHIN said, "The shoot was painless but sure enough, by the time I started editing, we were broken up. This little short is like a rear-view mirror that survived a fabulous, painful crash."

I found the saddest parts to be a) when the first woman changed her mind and walked away looking so distraught, and b) when the boy who said he was certain he was nobody's favourite person revealed that he had a girlfriend to bring the oranges to.
On the other hand, I don't think love means you have to be someone's favourite. Otherwise, you could only love one person in the world, right? But there are a lot of different kinds of love that you can feel for different people.
mememolly uploaded her response to the video and i kept it in the back of my head for a year or sth like that : ) so i wanted to reply and missed the link.. thought it couldnt hurt to watch the original
Surely person one has false hope that she is someones favorite person. The Second guy is happy and secure enough to say he's not anyone's favorite person but he's happy regardless. And the third guy doesn't want to get involved showing that he is a lone man
I think that the point like ironically by being confident you are no ones favourite person it actually endearing and making you more likely to be someone's... meaning ORANGES
aha, evident by the negs anyone who claims to be someones favourite gets, and the plusses anyone who claims to be no1's favourite gets. Still, the first person needed the oarnges just to cheer up. The second guy didnt need them.
