I think that maybe it shows the envy.
I mean that there are some people who are really envious and are able to destroy (eg the nails and the rabbits) what other made with effort (the man) but they don't give up and keep going (eg the man plants the carrots).
I don't know if I am correct. Could be lots of interpretations and I know this one is not the most evident one haha.

It is about Stability, Chaos, and the use of ideas in renweing the cycle of these elements. The plants represent new ideas, the predators the unforseen changes and "evils" that accompany them--it is not about society's destruction but its transformation. The old man's tears represent the suffering and toil that must be endured by agents of new ideas, or perhaps the suffering that attends the change itself. Only through personal sacrifice can the new ideas be mae real.

I think it talks about a way of life and how it took over the human cociaty:
1. A man working and developing his buisness through pain and effort 2. this way of life is slowly taking over his "world" 3. it spreads to the people around him and he has nothing to do because it got too big for him to escape from it 4. this way of life is slowly getting old and becomes a part of the land (the snails) leaving huge new buildings 5. a new way is coming when the man kept using the "tears" one.
