Im actually going to recant half of that statement. I had not watched the movie in a few years and when I saw it again the other day the scene was a lot stronger to me. It makes sense and does set up the point he is trying to make about Beatrix. I still am not a great fan of the "invention".
Bill is a Brilliant Sociopath, he was telling Beatrix the exact reason why leaving was impossible. She was a killer, no matter what, like Superman was always Superman. you figure with the teaching of so many masters he learned something about plants, so he knows what chemicals to mix. This Speech was a neccesity to truly understand how Bill felt about Beatrix Kiddo
This is the worst scene in the entire film. When I say film I mean Vol. 1 & 2. Bill introduces a truth telling serum that he "invented". At what point did we ever learn that the guy was so incredible of a person that he was also an inventor. Then he goes on to the Superman speech which has nothing to do with whats going on. You wait all the years to find out that the woman you loved is still alive and has come to kill you so you take your sweet ass time to talk about nonsense.
I don't care how intelligent a person might think they are watching this movie and that they "appreciate" the underlying meanings of what's being said. It is a useless addition to the movie and brings it down 10 notches from where it was before this dialogue came into play.
David Carradine was such a great actor. Watching this makes me feel so sad that he is gone, but at the same time happy that he lived and shared his talent with the world.
I believe Bill read Silvera ge comics, which if he did and based what he said on that, then I can see his whole dialogue being plausible to that version of the character.
You cannot apply that to today's Superman, it's a bit more complex since he seems to be juggling four identities (Clark from Smallville, the mild-mannered timid reporter from Metropolis, Superman, and Kal-El from Krypton) and out of those he sees himself primarily as Clark from Smallville.
Love Tarantino. He really emerged as a extremely skilled director w/ BILL. I mean, he showed his directing chops. Even though his dialogue was still top-notch, his action scenes blew me away. Seven years between J.Brown and Bill was spent perfecting his craft.
