According to what Marlon Brando said, the Indians were not accurately represented in any book or movie had seen in 1973. I can remember this movie from my childhood, but it may not have been an accurate portrayal of the Indian Nation.

John Ford made a great movie and used many of his great favorite actors part of the famed John Ford stock company. This film got very good reviews and I especially liked seeing one of the screens greatest beauties Dolores Del Rio in the movie. It was said that Jack Warner wanted "My Fair Lady" to be his studios Oscar winner and ignored
"Cheyenne Autumn" in the Oscar race.
Jack Warner got what he wanted an Oscar but this magnficent John Ford western deserved more attention from Warners

I totally agree. Dolores Del Rio was a screen goddess as much as Ava Gardner and Gene Tierney. No contemporary actress comes even remotely close. Sad but true.

Wyatt Earp "And another thing. You are Doc Holiday, so why do I have to do all the operations around here?"
Doc Holiday "I am a dentist. Next time a man gets shot in the teeth I will operate"

the scene with James Stewart (as Wyatt Earp) together with the veterans Arthur Kennedy and John Carradine is great! The semi-comedic Wyatt Earp sequence works perfectly amidst the gravity of the Trail of Tears.
