@Sulayamon---or maybe soulful pop? LoL! And NOT in a bad way. The upbeat tempo is what kind of lends it toward pop a little bit I think. He definitely had stage presence too. I love that quiick split he does, something I watched Prince master beautifully. lol!
dzegerowa---Right on! His influences were perfect choices and suited his own style so he wasn't like a copy cat, it would have really been nice to see D'Arby hitting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame right about now. I guess we will never know for sure what knocked him out of the running. It could have been personal issues, who knows? I never knew a lot about him personally, and making it like MJ and Prince even is pretty rare, which is a shame and in D'Arby's case, well he was a real contender.
for sure, but he infuses it all with an attitude all his own i think. he really was onto something - it's a shame he didn't have the mainstream staying power MJ and Prince had.
henrysvg---I absolutely agree with you! He had awesome potential, not really sure why he didn't stay on top longer. He was definitely good enough. I guess being shrewd as a business man can really make a difference, if you ARE the talent and ARE the producer as well, it gives you a better chance of making it, because if you can't do it all you have to have people backing you that you can really trust and I am thinking that is harder to get all together then it sounds, you know?
exactly. i'm just glad he's taken control of his career in recent years and continues to create, release and perform his amazing music - and his voice still in top form to boot. it makes me sad when he gets written off as a one hit wonder.
