i AM A STONE DYLAN FREAK AND I HAVE HEARD JOKERMAN THOUSANDS OF TIMES....STILL DO NO FOR SURE WHAT IT IS ABOUT, BUT I SURE LOVE THE POETRY. INCREDIBLE SONG. DYLAN WOULD SAY IT MEANS SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY TIME HE SINGS IT.

You will never hear a better composition than this. Those of us who have loved Bob from afar for most of our lives know where he was when he made Infidel. It is a mediation on the duality between good and evil. He forcefulyy implies that, as in Ecclesiastes, all this vanity and folly will make fools (or Jokermen) of those who fail to grasp an eternal truth that awaits us all at the end of this short material sojourn. From that perspective the complex symbolism becomes easier to grasp.
