I totally agree that America needs a revolution in rail travel...at least in the NEC where there is already an overhead catenary system in place. To purchase a train set that is capable of 165mph and only be able to run it at a maximum of 150mph on two sections of track along the NEC is foolish.

I have been a passenger on the TGV in Europe and the China Star on the Qinshen Passenger Railway line in China. I yearn for the day when the NEC boasts anything even close to these train sets.

Or plane. I live in D.C. and we love trains. I can take a commuter train to Balt. Washington Airport if I HAVE to fly, and it costs about $4. We need high speed rail now.

german first invented autobahn, then other european countries copied it after WW2. european motorways are actually better built than american ones. however, they are much narrow when compare to american highway: usually 2-3 lanes in either direction. the reason why they use rail to transport troops and equipments is because rail can move large amount of good efficiently. if every army in this world drives to the battlefield, then they are going to stretch its supply line, which is bad.

Yeah I know they are about twice as thick so they last much longer.

I always wanted to drive on the Autobahn.
