truly an excellent, and very underrated album right here. born to run is close behind, but i can say that this is my favorite album from bruce and the e-street band. i just saw them at madison square garden and they played this album in its entirety for the first time ever in concert, simply unbelievable

it hasn't got the real.. how should I put it...
Real street-spirit as in the first 4 albums (maybe not the 4th ^^). "Lost in the flood" is nowadays my top favourite song by Springsteen because the lyrics are great and the soulful spirit of the song is written with so much passion. Something I miss in the new stuff. The latest albums are too mature and unfortunately I don't recognize the old godd Boss in those :(

you are missing the real bruce. Listen to the poetic lyrics...listen to the dynamics of the band...everything is much more complex in his early stuff. Born in the USA and beyond has very little complexity, its very much simple lyrics and simple melodies...its boring, this is where he was best

i agree with you treble - asbury park and e street shuffle are such great albums, leading right into his masterpiece, born to run. then you have darkness, which wasn't born, but i still feel was strong follow up, along with the river and nebraska. but then born in the usa hit in 84 and things changed. i mean i love bobby jean and dancing and dark and all that, and i think usa was a good record, but things really changed. his greatest era is 73-80 no doubt. this song shows springsteen at his best

Great lyrics on every album he's done ever and most of the time they are complex for sure
