The movie was never released on the big screen, Shame, I saw the original in theaters when I was 14. The extra footage was released in a collectible tin with all the superman movies. Including Superman Returns. I don't remember if the special edition was released by itself or not. I bought the tin instead. lol

Saw the film when it first came out back in 1978. Chris Reeve was the best actor to have ever played Superman.

Same today as yesterday when I seen the film in its original release....Chris....your STILL my favorite actor of all time. Now and Always. Chirstopher Reeve....the one and only Superman to those before him and any who come there after.

wow... I just totally don't even remember Superman being re-released in 2001. shame, too, I would have definitely gone to see it. I saw it in the theater when I was a kid... made a huge impact on me. great memory, that day.
