To add to the first comment He hits a solo HR in the top of the 10th to put the Sox up 4-3(Barrett then drive Boggs in to make it 5-3. We all know what happened in the bottom of the 10th so I won't bring it up) Bottom line he nearly single handedly brought us our first W.S. in 68 years. Reverse 68, 86..... 1986 then in 2004 we won after 86 years..ooooooooooohhhhhh. Hendu....Gerald and Mark we'll never forget you guys.
Isn't it ironic that worthy throws a pass that essentially cost his team a title(remember the lakers won game 1,and were on the verge of sweeping the celtics, let alone beating them).Yet 2 years before recieved a bad pass that cost g-town a title? This was just less than 3 months after fred brown redeemed himself and went out a national champion.weird how karma works
Much better comment then the first one. The year after Brown threw the pass I was at a Villanova-Georgetown game and the Nova fans had a sign that said"Freddy Brown leads North Carolina in assists" Rough but funny. Remember the Giants won a world series in 1954. Unfortunately none in San Francisco yet. But still don't compare it to the Cubs plight. I think the 03 team was even better then the 02 team. The Marlins got a few breaks. My original comment was about the name Henderson in Bostonhistory
The name Henderson will live as one of the greatest names in Boston sports history. First the infamous Mark Henderson who in Dec. of 82 used the snowplow to clear a path so Jon Smith could kick a fieldgoal to beat the Dolphins. Then there was "Henderson stole the ball above". He saved a championship. Then last but not least Dave "HEndu" Hits a 2 run HR with two outs and one strike away from losing the series to the Angels. He also hit a sac flay in the 11th for the winning run. Then the Mets HR
Im tired of these self-important boston fans. The celts win a title, then blame buckner for losing the world series. Here they have the bruins, pats, celtics and yet think they have a monopoly on being loveable losers. The real team cursed are the sf giants,50 plus years no title! At least before '04 the sox could say ''they won a title'' even cubs fans have that on the giants. The '02 loss to the angels takes the cake in heartbreak folks, 5-0 lead with 8 outs to go?!
What the heck are you talking about?? Boston has won 6 titles this decade so who is whining?? Real Sox and baseball fans know it was more then Buckner's error that cost them the game. Macnamara doesn't pinch hit for Buckner and use Don Baylor off the bench. Clemens taking himself out of the game with the blister. Schiraldi giving up three straight hits. Stanley and Gedman's wild pitch/passed ball. That last one is the one that cost them. The Cubs haven't won it all since 1908 and a pennant-1945.
I remember this. I was at a graduation party and despairing that my Celts were going to be down 2-0 going to LA. Worthy got paid back for the Fred Brown gift pass in the '82 NCAA final.
