If you listen to the entire album Days of Future Passed you will get the context. The songs cover different times in one's day. Starting with the dawn of the day, then on to rush hour (I believe it's called "Peak Hour"), then "Tuesday Afternoon" , evening, and so forth. Thus, "Nights in White Satin" fits into the mix. It's my favorite album of all time.

It was a song Justin wrote when he was 19. Someone gave him white satin sheets for his first flat; he got the inspiration for the song at the end of a relationship when he looked at those sheets.
