I think your being unfair there. They completely change both their musical and lyrical style each album. The first was new indie about Sheffield life, the second alternative rock about their travels and fame, the third had a real jazzie tone with much more artist lyrics and less social commentry.
I'd go as far as to say no British band since the beatles reinvents it self after each album more than the arctic monkeys.
they are still a simple band take Kasabian for an example they are miles better than AM yet no any Brit award AM style is to write a catchy riff and throw on some nice lyrics, very simple band
