Placido has his place in greatness equal to Luciano and Jose. They have different styles, different voices, different emotions. But they have one common ground, and that is greatness. Greatness cannot be compared to another greatness.
So true this is just wonderful to hear such genius. I am no scholar when it comes to the opera, but i do know what moves me when it comes to music.......... this bring goosebumps and tears and a lump in my throat ........ i never knew what he was singing about until recently........... i think its all about the passion in which it is sung........... its hits you like wave smashing against cliffs : )
I think Domingo is great, but Pavarotti is a better Calaf for me. Their voices are very diffrent though Pavarotti was a Lyric tenor and I like that type of voice more then the dramatic tenor voice like Domingo's, in Turandot.
I didn't scroll down all the way to see if this had already been mentioned... but you all know that high-B was dubbed in after the performance, right?? If you check out user 'laprofehistoria', he has the original without the dub.
Are you kidding me? Better than Pavarotti? No one is better than Pavarotti period. I do, however, respect the great voice of Placido Domingo, but especially Nessun Dorma there is no comparison.
Pavarotti has without a doubt a stronger and powerful voice than Domingo, but that's not everything. Domingo's voice is far more agreable, the colour of his voice is better, and he is more capable than pavarotti to change his voice in order to adopt it to the situation. He's a master.
