Evening's Glow (Eichendorff)
Through trouble and joy we have walked hand in hand; we can rest from our wanderings now, above the peaceful country-side.
The valleys fall away around us, the sky is already darkening, Only a pair of larks still rise dreamily into the scented air.
Come here, and let them fly For soon it will be time to sleep and we must not lose our way in this solitude.
O broad, contented peace! So deep in the sunset glow, How exhausted we are with our wanderings— can this then be death?
------------------------------------- (less)

SHE IS JUST THE BEST.... Never ever heard the interpretacion of the"Im Abendrot" so good. Bought LP than CD and still listening to it. For all do respect to Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, I miss the breath and the sound of "t" on the end of the frase.Fantastic Jessie. 20 years of giving me the "gooes skin" and tears when I listen to YOU..
makes for me the way of singing by Jessye Norman more intensive/warmer and more expressive than the somewhat hardness that I feel in the voice and intonation by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf
The best performance of the "Vier leztze Lieder" is by Elizabeth Schwarzkopf (she made 2 recordings, and the two are so beautiful, really perfect). But I do like this great song by Jessye Norman. Kurt Masur is fantastic too...
Ms. Norman has no equal! But every singer has something to offer . Scharzkopf , Fleming Caballé Harken and Nilsson all have given me goose bumps!. But again Norman is wonderful and she is one of my all time favorites.
There is so much beautiful music to recommend (Tallis' Why Fumth in Fight - Stile Antico) but after listening to this recording for some twenty years I still feel it is the closest I will get to heaven.
Many great singers have these Songs in their repertoire, and I have several of their versions in my collection. In my humble opinion,Ms Norman's versions set the standard, and all the others merely make up the numbers.
