While some of u r saying that Aretha owned mariah and demanded attention, clearly thats incorrect because we all know what Mariah Carey can do with that voice of hers, not taking away anything from Aretha. But yes indeed Mariah did hold back because she respescts Aretha. Now we all know mariah couldve dominated this if she wanted to but out of pure respect she didnt.

right, she was respecting the fact that despite her efforts she could not keep up with Aretha. and there's nothing wrong with that. MC clearly knew it and was a good sport about. I understand being a fan can dull your perceptive faculties, but face the facts when you are exposed to them.

I can say that Mariah can really out-sing Aretha in this song because I didn't see any belting from Aretha. However, if you have ever seen Natural Woman from the same concert you'd see that even Mariah belt her heart out Aretha belting can defeat Mariah's quite easily.

However, I really want to hear Mariah and other Divas sing more. Aretha CAN really sing her own song good but should give some limelight to others.

Yeah i actually think that. Didn't you realized how often Mariah just stopped singing? Instead of trying to compete with Aretha, she just smiled, stopped singing and let Aretha have the limelight.
Aretha's voice is far away from her prime and you know that as good as i do. So yeah at this time Mariah could have outsing her with an ease. But she didn't because she knows what respect means. How could she have humbled herself down more than by saying Aretha the queen of soul?

It doesn't matter that Aretha was out of her prime, she could and she did outsing Mc with ease. As she did with everybody else that night. No one let Aretha do anything, she outsung all of them.
