Jarrah, at the speeds of the objects during the high altitude parachute tests (which are listed in the videos I linked you to), there will be enough air hitting the craft to produce a noise, plus there's the noise being transferred from the chute (which is catching air) though the taught cable.

Then why was Kittinger's fall silent? You can't have it both waves. Taking into account these contradictions, one or both of these parachute drops must be faked.

"Then why was Kittinger's fall silent?"

1 - There was no Microphone on his film camera.

2 - His starting velocity was 0, it took him a while to get up to a speed where he'd hear the sound of the thin air rushing past his large helmet.

"1 - There was no Microphone on his film camera."

Who said anything about a mic on his camera? I'm talking about what HE heard.

"His starting velocity was 0, it took him a while to get up to a speed where he'd hear the sound of the thin air rushing past his large helmet."

So was the JPL's parachute test, yet we can hear sound from the moment of release.

That sound on the JPL parachute test was vibrations.

Re sound being heard on the JPL high altitude test video. You do know that sound is also transmitted through solids? You're hearing sounds being transmitted through the parachute, as well as polssibly through the atmosphere. Air pressure is low at 120,000 feet, but it's not a complete vacuum (otherwise the parachute wouldn't open).

How do you think it possible that weather balloons can go to 120,000 feet if air pressure is zero at that altitude?

Kittenger dropped through the atmosphere at a 90deg. angle where as the probes angle brought it through far more atmosphere.

Logic and questioning the pronouncements of “experts” and “officials” has no place in what is passed off as “science” nowadays. These present-day promulgators of groupthink are as closed minded as the persecutors of Galileo.

Do you still maintain that Phoenix was traveling at over 20,000 km/h when the parachute deployed?

If so, why would you suppose that Mars entry wouldn't slow Phoenix down (After all, at 12.5 km and 20,000 km/h, you're looking at a dynamic pressure of 62 kPa, which will cause quite a drag force any way you look at it; even at 30 km, it's 15 kPa)?

If not, where can I see your correction? Thanks.

Certainly Kittinger fell at nearly the speed of sound (614 mph) because the air density is much lower at 100,000 feet than at 14,000 feet. About 10%. Check it out. He only opened his parachute at an altitude of 5,330 m (17,500 ft). He did a free fall 4 minutes 36 seconds until this point. Just quote correctly: Wikipedia Project_Excelsior About the same as Felix Baumgartner intending to break the sound barrier as the first in free jump Wikipedia Felix Baumgartner

The mars atmosphere is in fact not to be considered a vacuum. With this argument the earths atmosphere over 25 miles high had to be a vacuum as well. But the main heat on reentry of the space shuttle appears over 25 miles. There are a lot of people now letting go helium balloons with a camera up to about 20 miles. When they burst a parachute is deployed. A parachute opens when there is enough air pressure hitting it. Higher up this naturally happens at higher speeds. Check it out! Thanks.

"Without air, sound cannot exist" - not entirely true. Vibrations can still travel through the solid objects (i.e the parachute, down the ropes, to the camera) .The microphone on the camera would appear to pick up the sound recording. In fact, it's picking up internal vibrations from the parachute etc.

Wonder why there are NO STARS in the beginning of this video, when Melville filmed his launch into space, whata' know ...just like the Apollo films, and every other film from space/NASA......huh
