you can't catch it. diabetes type 1 is a genetic. which means it can be passed on like brown eyes or blonde hair. its all genetics. type 2 has to deal with diet.

I don't think anything kind of physical disorder can be inherited from a relative. I believe, it all starts with the diet. I also believe just about anything can be altered!

T1 Diabetes, the Pancreas basically destroys it's own cells.

Meaning that all sugar is channeled through the blood stream unchallenged unless supplied w/ IV of insulin.

W/out the insulin the blood vessel walls are damaged and blindness will soon follow.

ie. Retinopathy and Glacoma

Type 1 Brittle Diabetes is a worse death than Cancer (think Psychological, think Seizures, brain damage, and dying of a heart attack before the age of 50) Blindness, Keytoacidosis, Kidney failure... etc...

Even those T1's who have stayed away from sweets have a chance of the most miserable ends thinkable.

If T2's would take heed the caution to not die a Brittle Diabetic death.. T2's and T1's should not talk on each others forums.

I'm a T1 from Canada.
