Marty Robbins Sings The Wreck Of The Number Nine

Just Marty from the 50's and his guitar on this old classic. This was recorded around the time he was about to burst on the scene in the States with a long run of cross-over hits.

i am a big fan of jim reeves and love his version of this, but hey come on, isnt this truly great also? And you will be amazed to know that Jim was a big fan of Marty's , so he probably heard this version first anyway! Thank you so much for posting this Tarquin.

I love Jim's version and would argue that his version tops Marty's because he had the RCA session men accompanying him on his cut whereas Marty was just accompanying himself on guitar. I think Jim would have heard a version of the song long before Marty's as it probably dates from the 20's or 30's and Vernon Dalhart, but I'm not sure.
