Simply spin it fast enough and you get about 14V.

who ever said free power? thats dumb dude, sorry but its plain ignorant. its an alternator, it sustains a potential difference by means of voltage. simply creates an electric current that charges the battery up and powers the spark plugs and all the mumbo jumbo inside your car... ok? nobody said perpetual movement

What u said is partly true, Contrary to popular belive an alternator does not charge ur battery a genorator *sorry for spelling* Does an alternator Just simple holds the batter at current voltage for Example if the the battery is at 10 volts then it will keep it a 10 volts if the battery is at 2 volts it will keep it at 2 volts it dosent power the stuff in ur car the battery does this just keep the battery at the same voltage all the time but u where right for the spark plug part

well, yeah, i guess. i mean, im no expert in the circuitry inside the car, im more mechanical if you know what i mean. but yeah ok it does matter, now i know it just sustains the battery. but hey what that dude was saying was just incredibely stupid

Yes i tottaly agree i am not making fun of u, Older cars had genorators and im not sure why they dont know i am more of a mechanicle too i use to be on a funny car racing team ;) ) THere is no such thing as free energy an energy force must be used up to creat a differnt one, for instance the engine burning gasoline to move the car, alot of people think there is free energy but i always have to spend time explaing why

then how do you explain that say you have 12.6 volts in you battery, you start the car, the alt starts charging and you get well over 13.5 volts...

or when your battery is dead and you jump start your car, and drive it for an hour or so, then the battery is charged again....

they will create a small charge too, but u will need to frive for awhile older cars that had generators could charge the battery in a number of mins these dont
