It saves lives because there are alot of people in the US who can't afford healthcare + corrupt insurance companies who fuck people over who have health insurance. The goal of the reform is to ensure the entire population gets help when they are sick, and keeps greedy companies from exploiting people who are sick. I live in a country with Universal healthcare. If I get sick, I know I can get help and it won't cost me. And guess what? It saves lives. Now you understand?
