Actually Garbarek's father was(or still is) Polish so is Stanko, Kurkiewicz, Wasilewski, Miskiewicz and Me :P Manu, however, did'n manage to be born in Poland. Stanko is pretty well-established around the world and apparently he helped his younger friends to be discovered and appreciated. Wasilewski, Kurkiewicz and Misckiewicz also perform and record as 'Simple Acoustic Trio' and they're signed to ECM. Generally speaking jazz scene in Poland is pretty strong and has a long tradition.

You'll notice that I didn't mention the bassist, Slawomir Kurkiewicz, also Polish. He is a brilliant newcomer for those of us who relish the role of the bass in jazz. I believe they grew up together somewhere in Poland and played in a sort of garage band with their friend and excellent drummer, Michal Miskiewicz. This is a fantasy I'm not sure about.
