My wife's father, Alois Mommers (1901 - 1990), was a successful insurance salesman but his first love was always music. In this short music video he plays and sings (in German) a song he composed about his adopted hometown of Ruedesheim am Rhein, Germany- a well known tourist destination on the Rhine River. We still have his original handwritten words and music for this song, including more verses than the two on this clip. As the song says, "If you haven't been in Ruedesheim then you haven't been on the Rhine." Audio recorded in 1977 when Alois visited us in Ventura, California, USA . Video made in 2007 from the 1977 audio and from still photos from our family and file photos from Ruedesheim Tourist AG.

Nice to meet you. My name is Hitomi. I am Japanese. It is a very wonderful video. It sounded in the mind. I want also to go to Ruedesheim. Thank you for a wonderful video. (^U^)
Guess what - my friend told me she knows Alois! She grew up on the Magdalenenhof - a winery in the vineyards of Ruedesheim and she remembers that Alois has been there very often to sing and drink! :) She said it was always great when he was there because of the cheerful atmosphere! Best regards from the sunny Ruedesheim! susanne
Glad you like it. Alois loved Ruedesheim very much and spent most of his life there. Anneliese and I have visited Ruesesheim several times and it is a very nice town. We have Alois' original hand written music and words to this song he wrote. There are more verses than the two he sings here on this video. ---Jim
